Check Out This Dog On A 13,000 Foot BASE Jump

14th October 2017 UNDER Blog

Whilst we have yet to see pigs fly, the same is not true for dogs whom according to this video seem to have conquered the sky. Whisper is the first dog in the world to participate in the sport of BASE jumping. Dean Potter who is an avid rock climber, strapped his pet on to his back whilst leaping from a 13,000-foot mountain peak in Switzerland. Potter managed to shoot his pet’s response using a GoPro and we have to say it was less than enthusiastic.

Stress and fear

Some YouTube visitors criticised the stunt as being cruel, even though Whisper did appear to be calm as she hurtled towards the ground. The RSPCA said that whilst both owner and pet may have landed safely, this kind of activity is likely to cause the dog a significant amount of stress and fear. For his part Mr Potter reassures viewers in a blog post that his dog was safe. Mr Potter says he travels everywhere with Whisper and even when they are in dangerous terrain, Whisper is secured with a strong harness that has the ability to secure humans.

The dog seems okay with it

Mr Potter adds that last summer when he went wingsuit BASE jumping with Whisper, his dog never once appeared as if she was unwilling to come along. Mr Potter claims that whenever he put on his wingsuit, his pet nestles close and begs to come along. Whilst we’re not overly enthused about strapping an animal to your back whilst leaping from a mountain, who are we to judge? Check out the video.
