Safari Guide Lands In A Lion Mess

For those of us who spend eight hours a day in an office, any error, such as accidentally forwarding a personal email to the boss or using a colleague’s coffee mug is not the difference between life and death. However, if you happen to be working as a field worker in a game reserve, making a mistake can mean you end up standing in the middle of a lion pride. Recently a safari guide who was serving as a host for a game drive for a streaming service spotted a fresh set of lion tracks.

Experienced guide

The tracks appeared to be scattered across the gravel road. Lions will typically use the roads to navigate across their territories without being bothered. Experienced guides will check for signs of the lions. The guide who was eager to provide his online audience an opportunity to see lion life up-close followed the trail and halted when he arrived at a road junction in order to determine which direction the cats had chosen to move in.

Lions equally surprised

At one of the crossroads the experience guide exited his vehicle and began narrating to the camera the details of what it takes to track lions in the wild. As the guide walked further away from the safety of his vehicle and bent over to examine a set of tracks, a set of tawny heads poked out of the grass beside the road. The guide muttered his surprise when he finally spotted the lions which were less than a few metres away from him. Both the lions and the guide were very surprised by their chance encounter and fortunately for the human, the big cates chose to flee.

Stay calm

The guide maintained a sense of calm and began to slowly retreat, cautiously walking backard in order to maintain a watchful eye on the lions. Remember, in the unlikely event one comes across a lion pride, the best advice is not to run. The guide returned to his vehicle wearing a bit of a wry grin, completely aware his online audience had seen the lions well before he became aware of their presence. Alls well that ends well
