Terrifying Video Of Alligator Cannibalism

07th June 2016 UNDER Blog

If you need to be reminded that Mother Nature can be terrifying, you should watch this video of what is basically a one-sided battle between two alligators. Alex Figueroa was taking a morning walk near his home in Lakeland Florida. However what he thought would be a peaceful walk ended with him coming across and then filming a huge alligator eating a smaller one. Mr. Figueroa reckons the bigger gator was anywhere between 3.3 metres to 3.6 metres (11 to 12 feet) long.

Cannibalism is common for alligators

This may sound like bizarre behaviour however when it comes to alligators, cannibalism is not unheard of. A recent study found that as many as 7 per cent of baby alligators are eaten by a member of their own species. In an interview with National Geographic, Christopher Brochu an alligator expert from the University of Iowa said alligators are an opportunistic species and will eat whatever they can find, whatever can fit down their throats is basically food for them.
